WEST MIFFLIN, PA – It’s the surest sign that summer’s on its way: Kennywood is about to open the gates for another exciting season! The start of the National Historic Landmark’s 118th season marks the much-anticipated return of a beloved icon: the Noah’s Ark  whale. The centerpiece of Kennywood’s extensive efforts to overhaul one of the park’s most recognizable attractions, the large blue whale was removed 20 years ago when Noah’s Ark last saw significant changes. “We’ve heard our guests over the last 20 years, and that’s why the Noah’s Ark whale is back and here to stay,” says Kennywood General Manager Jerome Gibas. “We’re so excited for guests to experience the fresh twists to the classic funhouse experience Noah’s Ark has provided since 1936.” Ark construction began in November, and should be completed in time for guests to climb aboard during Opening Weekend. A Grand Re-Opening event for Noah’s Ark will take place on May 25. Kennywood’s gates open for the first time in 2016 at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 7. The park begins its daily operating schedule on Wednesday, May 25. Across the midway from the Ark, Kennywood’s most popular “ride”, the Potato Patch, has also undergone significant improvements. But don’t worry! The world-famous fresh-cut fry recipe remains the same. Guests this summer will see the benefits of Pittsburgh’s mild winter, as Kennywood crews have been able to tackle a larger number of improvement projects all around the park. And the 4-D Theater begins its first full season at Kennywood, showing the fun family short Ice Age: No Time For Nuts 4-D every 12 minutes. The theater is free with park admission. For information on Kennywood’s schedule, admission prices, discount opportunities, special events and more, visit www.Kennywood.com or contact the park at 412-461-0500.
