Celebrate America at Kennywood Park!

West Mifflin, PA -- Kennywood, America’s finest traditional amusement park, invites guests to join in the fun at Celebrate America, beginning Sunday, June 30 and continuing through Friday, July 5, 2013. The festival gives Kennywood a platform to show its best colors in a weeklong salute to the red, white and blue!

Celebrate America brings many extras to Kennywood including the 9th Annual Weiner 100 Dachshund Race! This event is sure to bring a smile to your face as 28 excited Dachshunds race in four heats in a mad dash for the finish line! The race starts Sunday, June 30 at 3:00 pm in the lawn behind the Carousel.

“This is the ninth year for this event and guests love it every year,” explains Jackie Mitko, Kennywood’s Celebrate America Coordinator. “It’s a little chaotic with the Dachshunds running in all directions, but eventually one crosses the finish line. It’s a lot of fun!”

Special entertainment, including mimes, jugglers, stilt walkers, unicyclists, and even Uncle Sam, perform around the park each day. Magicians feature old-fashioned slight of hand tricks, amazing even the most tech savvy guest.

Additional fun surrounds the park’s Lagoon. There’s jewelry maker Maria Nadik, chain saw carver Jeff Pinney, and artist Linda Barnicott. Guests can catch a cool breeze watching champion ice carver Rich Bubin. For the “bigger” kids at heart, antique and classic cars are scattered through the park.

Guests can take time to relax in Pavilion 23 while enjoying some of the region’s most talented musical groups– Pittsburgh Banjo Club, Too Many Tubas, South Hills Brass Band, East Wind Symphonic Band, Ohio Valley Community Band, country group The Stickers and more!

The excitement continues right up until it is time to leave! Each night features another Celebrate America tradition, Pyrotecnico fireworks, at 9:45 pm (weather permitting) following the Rhythm of Light laser show around the lagoon area.

Guests can save $10.00 off a FunDay Pass with discount coupons available at participating Giant Eagle locations. Regular FunDay passes are just $39.99, Junior (under 46’’) FunDay passes just $26.99, Senior (55+) FunDay passes just $19.99 and Night Rider (after 5pm) passes just $24.99!
