Of all the Kennywood rides and attractions, the Kennywood Kangaroo is likely the most beloved of them all. This is, in part, because the Kangaroo has been bringing smiles to people’s faces since 1962. Thanks to its extensive history at Kennywood, multiple generations of Kennywood visitors have hopped on the Kangaroo.
It is for that exact reason why so many were saddened to see the ride retired in 2020, alongside three other Kennywood rides, including Bayern Kurve, Paratrooper, and Volcano.
Because of how cherished Kangaroo has become over the decades, there was an outcry from the community to bring it back.
We heard you, park goers. Now, you can officially rejoice.
After being out of commission for two long years, Kangaroo is bouncing back into action! But it isn’t just being reinstalled. The Kangaroo ride has been completely refurbished and underwent extensive modernization to ensure that this ride can keep carrying Pittsburgh’s little joeys for several more generations.
While we have certainly updated the Kangaroo, rest assured that we have gone to great lengths to maintain everything that was adored and well-loved about the original. This point was very important to us, not only because of the place that Kangaroo holds in the community and people’s hearts, but because the Kangaroo is the last operating ride of its kind in the world. Thus, preserving the essence of the Kangaroo ride was essential.
Thanks to your excitement to bring the ride back, when you visit Kennywood this year and look for what’s new at the park (which is a lot), Kangaroo can be high up on your list of must-ride attractions.
If you are just as thrilled as we are to see Kangaroo back on the roster of Kennywood rides, be sure to get your tickets to Kennywood today so that you can come and be a part of the reintroduction of this classic attraction
