Dear Colleague:
Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is
happy to be a part of Education Days at Kennywood
Park this year.
Plants play an important part in all of our lives,
whether we realize it or not, from providing
food, clothing and medicine, to enhancing our
living spaces. Each year Kennywood Park plants
beautiful, colorful annuals and perennials that
really add to the overall experience at the park.
We would like to help your students become more
aware of these plants and the benefits they provide
at the park and in their lives.
We have created a worksheet that your students
can complete in about 30 minutes while they are
in the park. This worksheet will help them to
realize the planning and thought that goes into
the planting and maintenance of these plants
and how they make Kennywood a nicer place. The
worksheet will also provide some basic information
on Integrated Pest Management and its role in
a public place like Kennywood. (This will help
you to meet state standard 4.5.7 for Environment
and Ecology.) I hope your students enjoy completing
this worksheet, as they become more aware of
their surroundings.
Sincerely,,
Marjorie A. Radebaugh
